Drugs for Hypothyroidism
October 26, 2015 (Issue: 1480)
Primary hypothyroidism is usually the result of
Hashimoto's thyroiditis, thyroidectomy, or radioactive
iodine therapy. Treatment of hypothyroidism with
replacement doses of thyroid hormone is usually
lifelong. Levothyroxine is the drug of choice.
The Medical Letter is a subscriber-funded nonprofit organization that publishes critical appraisals of new prescription drugs and comparative reviews of drugs for common diseases.
